Silver roller skate pin cushion Birmingham 1908

A very unusual Edwardian silver pin cushion in the form of a roller skate boot. This wonderful item has working movable wheels. The original purple/blue velvet pad is still in place. Hallmarks are visible on one side of the boot for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1908 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. The maker’s mark is also visible (slightly rubbed) for the silversmith Crisford & Norris. There is also a patent registration number: Rd 535766. The Lion Passant mark is also visible on two of the wheels (front and back). A superb and very collectable item due to its rarity.

Condition: In great antique collector’s condition. (There are some small dings around the top of the boot just below where the cushion fits in and some very minor indentations on the body of the boot, hardly noticeable mentioned for accuracy only – see images).

Hallmarks & Maker’s marks: Birmingham 1908 by Crisford & Norris.

Measurements: Height: 5.4 cm. Length of boot: 7 cm. Width of boot: 2.3 cm at widest part. Weight: 48 grams
